In a time when artists often make music heavily laced with electronic sounds, Stacey Winters, owner of Soul Wired Cafe, plans to bring back the good days and the good vibes to midtown with a new kind of event.

"The Rebirth of Dope," which Winters describes as "a live acoustic neo-soul listening session with just the artists and the listeners," will take place every Saturday in March and April. Depending on how the crowds take to the event, the cafe may try to make it a regular series.

"I'm looking to bring back the old cafe gathering-space feeling," she says. Performers for the shows include the Freedom Jazz Quintet and Cleopatra Jones. After 11 p.m., spectators can dance to deejays such as DJ Cannon and C-Lecta.

Soul Wired Cafe (111 Millsaps Ave.) hosts "The Rebirth of Dope'" every Saturday in March and April starting at 8 p.m. Admission is $10. Call 601-863-6378, or visit soulwiredcafe.com for more information.
