Anthony Holloman, the new vice president of institutional advancement at Jackson State University, prides himself on being a highly motivated businessman. He says he learned the values of hard work and teamwork helping out on his grandfather Pearly Holloman's farm in South Carolina with his sister, Jill.
"The exposure on the farm gave me a good appreciation of responsibility," Holloman said. He moved to Jackson on Monday, June 29, to begin his new position at JSU.
Holloman attended Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte, N.C., where he played football and ran track. He graduated with a bachelor's of arts degree in communications in 1992. He also earned a master's degree in sports studies from the United States Sports Academy in Daphne, Ala., and is pursuing his doctorate in higher education management at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. As a former student athlete, Holloman plans to putt an emphasis on athletics and other extracurricular activities at JSU to give students more opportunities to express themselves.
He was the director of development for North Carolina A&T State University for three years. He also served as assistant vice president at Tennessee State University and vice president at South Carolina State University. Before taking over at Jackson State in June, Holloman was vice president of institutional advancement at Stillman College in Tuscaloosa, Ala.
He said he wants to make the university better by making the community better.
"Jackson State has an obligation to be a good citizen in the community," he said. He wants to work with the alumni and make the campus the place to be for people in the Jackson metro area. "This is an unbelievable opportunity that I have," Holloman said.
