JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — Dr. Doug Rouse will become president of Mississippi's College Board on May 8, leading trustees who oversee the state's eight public universities.
The Hattiesburg orthopedist takes over for Jackson's Alan Perry.
Rouse earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Southern Mississippi and a medical degree from the University of Mississippi Medical Center.
He's been the College Board's vice president for the last year. Then-Gov. Haley Barbour appointed Rouse in May 2008 to represent the Southern District through May 2018.
Perry took over just after trustees declined to renew the contract of University of Mississippi Chancellor Dan Jones. He later led trustees in hiring Jeffrey Vitter to lead Ole Miss.
Perry's term representing the Central District runs through May 2018.
C.D. Smith of Meridian will serve as vice president.
