Deputies Arrest 3 in Connection with Plot to Kidnap Judge

TUPELO, Miss. (AP) — Authorities have arrested three men accused of conspiring to kidnap a circuit court judge.

Multiple news outlets report that the Lee County Sheriff's Department arrested 24-year-old Thomas Waddell, 27-year-old Matthew Fowler, and 22-year-old William Randolph on Sunday on charges including conspiracy of burglary, robbery and kidnapping.

Sheriff Jim Johnson says a person called authorities Sunday after overhearing the men talking at a Tupelo restaurant about a plot to kidnap Judge Paul Funderburk.

Johnson says deputies retrieved surveillance from the restaurant and interviewed people to determine if the information was credible. After the investigation, deputies arrested two suspects at a motel and the third at a Tupelo residence.

They're being held in the Lee County Jail on $150,000 bond each. It's unclear if they have attorneys.
