Tonight, Ward 7 Councilwoman Margaret Barrett-Simon posted a message online, explaining her recent illness and absence from council meetings. Here are her remarks, verbatim:
I wanted to let all of my constituents know that I deeply appreciate all of your support during my recent medical issues. For those of you who do not know: I have been struggling with several serious medical conditions since early fall, including several operations and a recent diagnosis of Stage 1 non-Hodgkins lymphoma. This condition is treatable and my prognosis is excellent; I expect to be cleared to go back to work by early next week.
I want to assure all of you that I remain engaged and informed on all of the issues that the Council faces, and I am involved in the debates that accompany these issues. I have also teleconferenced my vote many times. I promise to continue to represent the interests of Ward 7 residents to the very best of my ability.
We wish Barrett-Simon and her family the best and welcome her back to council.
