JACKSON The Jackson Police Department just released the following statement, verbatim.
On Sunday, January 24, 2016 at approx. 2:53 PM, Jackson Police Officers responded to the 1900 block of Ventura Dr. regarding a shooting. Upon officers’ arrival it was learned that two female victims had been shot multiple times in the street near this location. They were later identified as Stephanie Mejia and Janis Evans. They were both pronounced deceased on scene. Janis Evans was later confirmed to be several weeks pregnant at the time of her death.
During the course of the preliminary investigation, it was learned that the victims were both occupying a white in color Chrysler 300 at the time of the shooting. They were either shot in the vehicle and/or in close proximity to the vehicle. The suspect(s) fled the scene on foot after the shooting.
During the course of the follow-up investigation, Robbery/Homicide Detectives questioned Rahim Williams on January 27, 2016 regarding this incident. He was arrested after questioning for Convicted Felon in Possession of a Stolen Firearm. He was booked into the City Jail where he remained.
On Thursday, February 25, 2016, Rahim Williams was developed and identified as a suspect in this incident. He has been charged with three counts of Murder stemming from the deaths of Stephanie Mejia, Janis Evans and the death of the fetus. He is currently being held in the Hinds County Detention Center in Raymond, MS awaiting an initial court appearance.
