No Death Penalty for Ex-Miss. Inmate in 2013 Vegas Slayings

LAS VEGAS (AP) — A 32-year-old former Mississippi jail inmate won't face the death penalty in Nevada in a 2013 double slaying case.

Prosecutor Giancarlo Pesci said Monday that a panel of deputy Clark County district attorneys decided recently not to seek capital punishment against Christopher Charles Green.

Defense attorney Jeremy Storms declined to comment.

Green is due for trial Sept. 12 on two murder charges in the shooting deaths of Teray Shaney Lyles and Michael Dunbar in October 2013.

Police say witnesses identified Green as the gunman, and a partial fingerprint linked him to a rifle found near the slaying scene in a courtyard of an east Las Vegas apartment complex.

Green was returned in March in custody to Las Vegas after being jailed in Mississippi for an aggravated assault conviction.
