JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — Authorities in Mississippi say an armed robbery suspect shot a Jackson police officer.
Police spokeswoman Calendula Green says police responded to a robbery call around 6:15 Wednesday morning at the Edgewood Terrace apartments.
Green says the first officer on the scene entered an apartment and a suspect emerged from the rear and opened fire on the officer, grazing his side.
She says the office returned fire and chased the suspect through the apartment and he crashed through a window.
Green said the suspect was wearing all black. She says officers are searching the area of the suspect.
She says the officer was taken to the hospital with a non-life threating wound.
