Mississippi Regulators Plan to Release More Kemper Documents

JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — Mississippi utility regulators say they're going to make it easier for people to look at documents relating to Mississippi Power Co.'s $6.6 billion power plant in Kemper County.

The Mississippi Public Service Commission said Thursday that it would begin posting online summaries of reports by two firms monitoring the plant's construction on behalf of regulators. Those summaries were already available, but required a public records request.

Commissioners also say they're going to examine opening other documents relating to Kemper that previously had been sealed. Plant opponents say regulators agreed to keep secret too many supporting documents that Mississippi Power filed, such as predictions about future prices of natural gas. Gas prices have remained low, making the plant a comparatively worse deal versus building a plant that just burned natural gas.
