Ex-Mississippi Inmate to Stand Trial in Vegas Double Slaying

LAS VEGAS (AP) — With several witnesses available to testify, a former Mississippi jail inmate decided to face trial in Nevada state court rather than a preliminary hearing on Thursday in a 2013 double slaying in Las Vegas, court officials said.

Christopher Charles Green, 32, could face the death penalty in the killing of Teray Shaney Lyles, 29, and Michael Dunbar, 28, in the courtyard of a Las Vegas apartment complex.

Green's lawyer, Jeremy Storms, said Green plans to plead not guilty to two counts of murder with a deadly weapon at his arraignment Monday in Clark County District Court.

Prosecutor Giancarlo Pesci declined to comment about the case. Clark County District Attorney Steve Wolfson will decide in coming weeks whether to seek capital punishment against Green.

Police reported that several witnesses at the apartment complex identified Green as the gunman, and a partial fingerprint linked him to a 9mm rifle found in some bushes near where Lyles and Dunbar were killed.

Green was transported in custody to Las Vegas in March from Mississippi's Yazoo County Regional Correctional Facility, where he'd been jailed since 2014 on an aggravated assault conviction.
