JACKSON Beverly Farabee, owner of B Fabb's Ritzy Rags Consignment Boutique (775 Lake Harbour Drive, Suite F), is a longtime consignment lover who decided that opening a store of her own would be a great way to connect with her local community. Farabee's store opened for business on Aug. 1.
"I went into business to provide clothing and furniture in a boutique atmosphere that would make people feel at home," Farabee said. "I want Ritzy Rags to be the people's consignment boutique."
In addition to clothing and furniture, Ritzy Rags has shoes, purses, household accessories and more. The store is currently holding a summer closeout sale, with items such as sandals and lighter or summer-colored clothing on sale for 10 percent of the usual price, or less, until Sept. 11.
Ritzy Rags is open Tuesday through Friday from noon to 7 p.m., Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 6 p.m. For more information, call 601-594-3334 or visit the store's Facebook page.
Incense Salon and Boutique Now Brow Bar
Incense Salon and Boutique, which had been in business at the Treetops in Lakeland for 14 years, moved to Dogwood Festival Market in June and changed its name to Brow Bar By Incense (115 Floral Park Cove, Flowood). Kirti Naran, the boutique's owner, decided to move and change the shop's focus to generate more foot traffic.
Naran decided to eliminate the boutique aspect of her business and instead focus on haircuts and eyebrow styling. The Brow Bar features a special method of eyebrow styling called threading, which uses a thin thread to shape eyebrows, rather than waxing or plucking. Naran says threading is gentler on the skin.
The Brow Bar By Incense is open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. For more information, call 601-933-0074, visit browbarflowood.com or check out the Brow Bar's Facebook page.
Fratesi's Brings in New Head Chef
Last week, Pam Fratesi, owner of Fratesi's restaurant (910 Lake Harbour Drive, Ridgeland), brought in her son-in-law, Nick Secoy, as the restaurant's new head chef.
"I brought Nick in to help synergize operations as we start training new staff and shift our focus to classic Fratesi family recipes," Fratesi told the Jackson Free Press.
Secoy, 35, has 13 years experience as a chef and specializes in steak, sauces and seafood. He is the former executive chef at the Cedar Grove Inn in Vicksburg and worked with the Viking Cooking School from 2000 to 2003. He has also worked at Amerigo Italian Restaurant and Giardina's at the Alluvian Hotel in Greenwood. Secoy apprenticed under Chef John Kellogg from 2003 to 2007. He also restored the Four Pillars Inn in Rolling Fork in 2005, which he still operates as a bed and breakfast together with his wife, Krystal Secoy. Secoy's cooking has been featured in magazines such as Eat Drink Mississippi, Mississippi Magazine and Garden & Gun magazine.
"In the days to come, we're going to be focusing heavily on original family recipes at Fratesi's," Secoy said. "We're going to be updating some existing menu items and bringing in some new family recipes that we've been wanting to try out at the restaurant as well. We're also going to feature new chef's specials that will change from week to week."
