Capitol Police Re-locate War Vigil at Last Minute

Sharon Lobert, Jackson resident and organizer of the candelight vigil today in Jackson protesting the war in Iraq, said Capitol Police moved the vigil to the steps of the capitol at the last hour. Organizers had originally planned the vigil at the War Memorial, on State Street, but were ferried away to a different location at the last minute.

"The officer who talked to me said he had a problem with the protest being on state property, so he moved us to the Capitol, which is also state property, so that makes no sense at all," Lobert said Wednesday.

Capitol police did not return calls for comment.

Sounds to me like some folks didn't like the idea of a war protest taking place at a war memorial. Have they forgotten that those men and women lost their lives so that we could have a right to protest?
